PALM COAST, FL – Edward George Schlesier, 55, of Palm Coast, Florida, died unexpectedly after a medical event on February 4, 2025, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
He was born March 11, 1969, in Bay Shore, NY, the son of Ruth Schlesier and the late Harry Schlesier. He attended Bay Shore schools and graduated from Bay Shore High School in 1987. He was employed in commercial HVAC construction at DG Meyer Heating & Air in Ormond Beach at the time of his passing. Previous positions included mechanic/installer at Select Environmental Systems from 1991-2013 in West Babylon, NY. He also spent time working for Flagler Palm Coast High School in Florida.
Edward, known as “Ed,” or “Slicer” by his many friends, was a 37-year member of the Bay Shore, NY Fire Department, serving as Captain of Hook & Ladder Co. #1 in the years 2003-2004 and 2009-2010. He cherished each member of his firefighter family and highly valued the brotherhood of which he was a part. He joined fire personnel from around the country for search and rescue at the site of the World Trade Center in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, terrorism attacks.
Edward is survived by two sons: Daniel Schlesier (fiancée, Dani) of Bay Shore, NY; and Austin Schlesier of Palm Coast, FL. His two boys were the loves of his life. He was bursting with pride to be at the February 2025 installation where Daniel was named Captain in the Bay Shore Fire Department. When his youngest son Austin played football, Edward was always there, cheering on the team and his boy.
He was a lover of all the good and wholesome things in life — his loyal dogs (Tilly, Blue and Dagur), an ice cold beer, a crackling fire in the backyard or at the campsite, and his many friends gathered around the circle. He loved a long Harley motorcycle ride, a great NASCAR race or a game, especially if the New York Islanders, Mets or Giants were playing.
His grilling prowess was unmatched, and he often spent the day at his favorite Daytona Beach spot, where he would listen to “classic” 1980s rock, make new friends, and grill for the lifeguard staff and anyone who was drawn by the enticing smell of roasting meat. If there was a tailgate party at a race or a game, Ed was there, and if nothing was going on, he operated from his self-titled “Grillmaster Headquarters.”
Additional survivors include his mother, Ruth Schlesier of Palm Coast, FL; sisters Valerie Geick of Mastic Beach, NY and Patricia Colson (Steve) of Palm Coast; brothers Harry Schlesier (Kathy) of Newport, NY; and James Schlesier (Jessica) of Johnstown, NY; nieces, nephews and cousins. He leaves behind lifelong friends Robert Hubert, Dave Tanguilig, Joe and Anne Marie Petecca and many more.
Celebrations of life will be held at a later date, in both Florida and Long Island.
To honor the life of Edward, please enjoy each day to its fullest. If life gives you limes, make margaritas. And don’t forget to add a little brisket, and share it with a friend, just to make the meal complete.
Arrangements entrusted to Blue Star Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
